Top Ten Kickass Custodians

Hmmm...sinister janitor. This'll end well.

Hmmm...sinister janitor. This'll end well.

I was disheartened when I started research for this Top Ten, to find that between us, ThatCostumeGirl and I weren’t the first ones to come up with the idea. (Also, between us, neither of us can remember whose idea it was, so I’m keeping things on the level…for now.)  There’s a few lists out there about this very thing.  Having reviewed those lists, I can safely say that while there is some overlap, I don’t think I’m stepping on anyone’s toes.  So, without further need for anyone to get out that strange smelling sawdust that janitors put on puke, here’s the ten most kickass custodial engineers in fiction. Top Ten Showdowns! (Non-Western Film Genre) SPOILERS!

Meet in the parking lot...Three O'Clock High!

Meet me in the parking lot...Three O'Clock High!

When I watch epic films or TV series, I pay attention to the early relationships formed between the characters.  Why would I do this?  Well, it’s been my experience that the closer the relationship, the better the showdown between the characters when things go wrong.  And things always go wrong!  Then again, sometimes the chemistry works in just a way that you just know these people (or things) are going to throw down and provide you, the moviegoing/couch potato nerds with a fight worth watching!  So, here they are, my favorite showdowns!  (The criteria here is that there has to be a bit of an emotional investment in the fight, and the people involved have to have a reason to rumble.  Also, they have to actually show what happens…so, please don’t come after me with Bucho vs El Mariachi, okay?) The Legend of The Itenerant Pedagogue

Looking at this, seriously, the only thing I can think is: Oh Shit!

Looking at this, seriously, the only thing I can think is: Oh Shit!

Having already reviewed one adaptation of Washington Irving’s wonderfully moody old book The Legend of Sleepy Hollow earlier this month, let me now review the version I consider superior to all of them, and that’s Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  Created as a double bill with Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and marketed together in the form of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, let me make certain to you that I’m only reviewing the Legend of Sleepy Hollow part, okay?  Good, let’s get started, cause, really, I can’t wait! Top 10 Chosen Ones

And...begin Joe Esposito soundtrack showcase...NOW!

And...begin Joe Esposito soundtrack showcase...NOW!

Throughout fiction (and some nonfiction), there are  accounts of a promised or chosen one that will either show up to solve all the problems, or enter and cause all the problems.  I like them either way.  I noticed something while researching this, and it’s interesting.  In most of the “chosen ones” that I was able to find, they either weren’t the actual ones people were looking for, or they accomplished their prophecies through unexpected means.  (more…)

Top Ten Badass Educators

"Anyone...anyone....anyone..."

"Anyone...anyone....anyone..."

Man, I remember sitting in class, bored out of my skull, thinking that it would be so much more interesting if, when the weekend rolled around, my teacher would head for the hills to solve mysteries or protect the innocent.  The school teachers of rural Kentucky, where I hail from, don’t really think that way.  In fact, no teachers think like that.  That’s why, in escapist entertainment, we have more than a bit to choose from when it comes to getting the job done and ridding the world of evil.  So, here they are, in my personal rank order: (more…)

What Are You Doing on June 18, Next Year?

"I once caught a fish THIS BIG!"

"I once caught a fish THIS BIG!"

I know what I’m going to be doing, and that’s sitting in a theater with a new pair of 3D glasses on (like I don’t have twenty pairs of the goddamn things already) watching Toy Story 3!  Also, I will be laughing, bouncing up and down in my seat, clapping, and probably, crying.  Actually, I’m not lying about any of that.  Ask ThatCostumeGirl, or my kids!  They’ll tell you I’m a huge pansy!  I’ll say this for Pixar films…they like to make you weep, don’t they?  Holy shit, the first five minutes of Up?  Forget about it!  I was trying not to snot everywhere and moan and wail!  But, I will be in line for this one, and, if the buzz is any indicator, I’ll see you in the same line.  Anyways, here’s the trailer, but get a look quick, as Pixar has been whipping them down as soon as they see them!  Enjoy!

Edit:  OR, you can go here to Apple’s official trailer site.  I merely forgot to add it earlier because I hate Quicktime.  Then again, this is an Apple production, so why not exclusivity on the trailer, right?

Top Ten Halloween TV Episodes/Movies/Specials!

Tue ,13/10/2009

Hey, you asshole! I could've made a pie with that!

It’s that time of the year, but every year around a holiday, I start to notice that some of the fun is missing.  Especially Halloween.  When I was a kid, every year, it seemed, there was a new animated special (most likely on CBS, who had the best special program bumper of all time!) or made for TV movie or special episode that kept you glued to the television and away from harmful things like fresh air and exercise.  So, it is with a touch of nostalgia that I introduce my personal top ten favorite halloween themed TV offerings from years past.  I know such things exist now, but I don’t really want to watch Zack and Cody fuck up my favorite holiday, thanks.  Here we go, in personal rank order: (more…)

Nerds Rejoice/Vomit

Works for me!

Works for me!

Okay, it appears that Marge Simpson will be appearing in Playboy.  Not nude (Which would’ve been jumping the shark, I mean, could you see the actual character doing that…ever?) and it would seem that this is a polarizing issue/slow news day.  Personally, I think it’s great.  I love the show.  Always have, and always will.  Besides, I think this issue of Playboy will probably be funny as hell.  I’ll do a writeup on the show later, it’s already in the works, but…well, checkout the the comments section over on ToplessRobot (Where author Rob is having a very hard time dealing with this apparently).  Half of the dorks love it, and the other half hate.  No one’s admitting to still liking The Simpsons…for that I’d have to call shenanigans, but I’ll talk about that some other time.

So, congratulations to fictional character Marge Simpson.  Couldn’t have happened to a nicer woman.

Now, I’m A Man

I thought it appropriate that now that I have my own website, I should announce to the world that now, I’m a man.  A He-Man!  Enjoy
