Season’s greetings from ThatCostumeGirl and me.

Now go eat some candy!

Welcome to Frrrright Night…(For Real)

We're all in for a most frightening night!

We're all in for a most frightening night!

And now, for my favorite horror film of all time, Fright Night!  I love this film, and probably for personal reasons more than the quality of the film itself.  I think it says something about a person that they can tell you a favorite horror film and its A) over twenty years old, and B) not gory.  But, I’ll say as I’ve always said…trust in Hitchcock.  Why would I say that about this movie?  Read on, but if you’re here reading this, then you probably already know. The Legend of The Itenerant Pedagogue

Looking at this, seriously, the only thing I can think is: Oh Shit!

Looking at this, seriously, the only thing I can think is: Oh Shit!

Having already reviewed one adaptation of Washington Irving’s wonderfully moody old book The Legend of Sleepy Hollow earlier this month, let me now review the version I consider superior to all of them, and that’s Disney’s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.  Created as a double bill with Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and marketed together in the form of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, let me make certain to you that I’m only reviewing the Legend of Sleepy Hollow part, okay?  Good, let’s get started, cause, really, I can’t wait! Arsenic and Old Movies

Others? More than one others?

Others? More than one others?

The day is finally upon us, and per my agreement with The Holiday and my promise to keep it holy, I’ll be watching and reviewing three movies today.  The first of the bunch, and probably the most entertaining is Frank Capra’s unfailingly fantastic classic Arsenic and Old Lace.  But you may ask, why would I review a comedy on a day seemingly designated for horror?  Not so fast…there’s plenty of horror going on here! Continuity? This Is A Halloween Movie!

Aw man! He put Laurie in the dryer. That's some cold shit, Michael!

Aw man! He put Laurie in the dryer. That's some cold shit, Michael!

I would have loved to have been sitting in the production meeting for H20 when they decided to fuck up all continuity of any Halloween film that Jamie Lee Curtis hadn’t been in.  I sure it went something like this: (more…)

New Ways To Annoy People #4

Fri ,30/10/2009
The people in front of you don't want to see either.

The people in front of you don't want to see either.

The best thing about people is just how easy it is to annoy them.  Then again, some of the things I’ve suggested on this site won’t just annoy people, but will get your ass thrown in jail awful quick.  Or, at the very least, get your ass handed to you in a fistfight.  So, here’s volume four of the ongoing “New Ways To Annoy People”: (more…)

All The Monsters vs Chuck Norris

Fri ,30/10/2009
...and then Chuck got cut into four equilateral pieces.

...and then Chuck got cut into four equilateral pieces.

For a very special Halloween “vs Chuck Norris” segment, ThatCostumeGirl suggested we set the monsters out there loose on poor little Chuck.  I’m a little uncertain on how to do this, but I’m going to give it a try anyways.  I like Chuck, I do, and no doubt about it, but as a nerd in general and a movie nerd specifically, I think a load of my favorite horror film baddies would put a whoopin’ on the penultimate Texas Ranger, so here goes…Monsters vs Chuck Norris. Why Hospitals Are Bad

Michael realizes he's been hit with the deadly "Stinkpalm".

Michael realizes he's been hit with the deadly "Stinkpalm".

Sure, it begins right after Halloween ends, but did Halloween 2 have to take place almost entirely in a hospital?  Sure, why not?  There’s plenty of people to kill in a hospital, right…especially if one of them was your intended target in the first movie! (more…)

Hot Nerd Mancrush #3: Nathan Fillion

Thu ,29/10/2009
Now those are the biceps...sorry, acting ability. I meant acting ability of a real man!

Now those are the biceps...sorry, acting ability. I meant acting ability of a real man!

As far as mancrushes go, this one’s a doozy.  Why, you ask?  Well, Firefly is one of my favorite shows of all time.  A big, big part of that was the Captain, Malcolm Reynolds, his fall from grace, and his handling of his very hectic lifestyle with a dark humor.  While I know that part was written with someone else in mind, I can’t see anyone but Nathan Fillion in the part.  Then I got to thinking about it.  I can’t see anyone other than Nathan Fillion in all of his parts. The Shape (Of William Shatner)

Michael prepares to have a discussion with Laurie in regards to wire hangers.

Michael prepares to have a discussion with Laurie in regards to wire hangers.

John Carpenter’s Halloween is one of my favorite films, screw the genre!   It’s dark, it’s scary, and it’s entertaining without having to go light on the terror.  It just goes to show you what you can do with a little ingenuity and a spray painted William Shatner mask. (more…)
